Hi folks,
Since our next monthly meeting will be this Monday October 21 at 3 PM EST/12 PM PST I am sending out a proposed agenda<https://docs.google.com/document/d/11Tsyz0gyRmKXdMQLPwbda7wONVH7cTxm652_-zk…> so please feel free to add any items that you would like for us to discuss:
OJS-DVN Monthly Meeting Agenda 10/21/13
* Dev Update:
* Phil: Anything to add about the API
* Alex/Jen demo of plugin
* Next Steps? Following items were in the grant document
* Conduct internal QA testing of alpha version (timeframe?)
* Setup Journals for testing: Work closely with these journals to assist with the configuration their DVN and workflow (Eleni: this is already in progress), (set up LOCKSS replication?), and ingest any current datasets associated with that journal
* Develop best practices materials for authors, reviewers and editors: Templates for data citation, data review, data availability and replication policy statements will be made available on OJS and Dataverse.
* Journals test functionality (timeframe?): Conduct survey (using google forms?) of beta test participants. List of feedback, bugs, change requests and suggested new functionality from the initial
* journals
* Other items?
Thanks!
Eleni

Hi team,
We have 1 week left before we launch our pilot testing, so with that in mind here are a few items we need to get done ahead of November 4.
1. All: Pilot Tester Survey: Alex has put together a few questions (see email below) which are a combination of more general UI questions and some that involve explaining the behavior and then asking what they think about it. I've looked through them and they seem to cover all the questions we'd have regarding functionality but would like to see a question about how easy it is to find/use the "Data Citation" in OJS and likewise the Publication/Article Citation in Dataverse. Is there anything that anyone else can think of that should be added? Also would everyone be ok with this going into a Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1iyrTtyf9-omAdlncPemmP-OOsvxMTxwhH8dV21mwkI… ?
2. PKP Team: Most recent OJS plugin build for QA testing: Last Thursday, Jen and Alex gave a demo of the OJS plugin using Jen's local machine. When could we receive the newest build for Elda to complete testing?
3. PKP team/Eleni: Instructions for Journals to setup/test plugin. Alex and Jen – mind if we work on this together? Will be in touch to coordinate this with you tomorrow.
Also not a high priority for Nov 4 but:
Phil/DVN Team – Feature Request : Create a redmine ticket for two-way synching of OJS-Dataverse via Data Deposit API. ATM we can only sync files and metadata from OJS to DVN and not from DVN (the client) over to OJS. This came up from Merce during our plugin demo session last week.
Thanks for your help everyone and please let me know if I left anything important out.
Cheers
Eleni

Subject: Re: Sample survey questions for publisher testing
Okie doke, revised batch:
1) Were you able to use the plugin menu to connect to an available Dataverse Network instance and select a Dataverse from the drop-down box? Were there any technical/network glitches encountered during this process?
2) The plugin settings menu permits you to import and mirror Deposit Terms of Use directly from a connected Dataverse, and otherwise hooks into OJS' existing policy templates for setting Data Availability policies and submission guidelines. Do you envision that this will be clearly understood by all OJS users who work with these policies?
3) When the Dataverse plugin is enabled, OJS prompts authors for more granular metadata than normal for any data files they upload during the submission process. Most of this metadata is then reflected in the linked Dataverse. Considering that this will slightly lengthen the submission process for authors in an effort to provide better metadata about individual data files, do you think that these fields are currently too granular, not granular enough, or about right? Is there anything that you would change?
4) When articles' supplemental data is deposited by OJS into a linked Dataverse, it is no longer accessible to readers via the OJS interface. Instead, a link is provided on the article landing page to the corresponding record in the Dataverse Network. This is done in order to provide a single, rich interface for retrieving and analyzing any article data. However, OJS editors are still able to replace or update already-uploaded files within OJS and have the changes be seamlessly reflected in the Dataverse interface. Do you have any concerns about this behaviour (e.g., readers not being able to use the previously-existing functionality for downloading supplemental files directly from OJS)?
5) Per our earlier survey of journal workflows, the Dataverse plugin can be configured to publish supplemental data via Dataverse either A) upon publication of the linked article via OJS, or B) upon acceptance of the linked article via OJS. Option B is available to promote more rapid distribution of research data than traditional article publication workflows typically allow. Do you envision your journal utilizing option B, or do you have any other thoughts to share on the matter?
6) The Dataverse plugin automatically deposits all supplemental data into Dataverse immediately upon upload, but it does not publish this data until the conditions described in Question 5 are met. Similarly, we have provided another set of options to either A) delete unpublished supplemental data from dataverse if and when the linked article is rejected from OJS, or B) retain the unpublished supplemental data in Dataverse. Option B is provided in the event that editors wish to publish the data anyway in agreement with the authors, or transfer it to another Dataverse which may wish to publish it without requiring authors to repeat the submission process. Do you envision your journal utilizing option B, or do you have any other thoughts to share on the matter?
7) Is there anything that the plugin does not make sufficiently clear, or any obviously missing functionality? Are there any UI changes you'd recommend?
8) How would you rate your overall experience using the OJS Dataverse plugin?
Let me know what you think and I'll plug them into the Google Form tomorrow...
-alex
Hi team,
Firstly, Meeting Notes are available here<https://docs.google.com/document/d/11Tsyz0gyRmKXdMQLPwbda7wONVH7cTxm652_-zk…>. Please feel free to add/comment on anything that I may have misunderstood.
Secondly, I also met with Micah post-meeting and he had the following question for PKP folks:
Can we have a demo site of the OJS plugin (private URL) so we can show other groups the functionality? (ex. MIT Press is interested in seeing this)
Thirdly, and most importantly here are our Action Items and Tentative Project Timeline/Milestones for the next month set in somewhat chronological order. Does this timeline/deadlines work for everyone. If there may be any issues with this please let me know so I can adjust the schedule below. If it's ok with everyone, I would like to propose that we push the Journal Beta Testing date to Monday November 4th. This will give us a bit of extra time to get everything setup and I assume most people wouldn't actually start testing till Monday anyway.

Hi everyone,
Several people outside of our project have been asking about what the data publication workflow for our project would look like. With that in mind, I have put together an updated OJS-Dataverse Integration Workflow graphic which is high-level but also shows how there are many different options for when data can be deposited into the Dataverse.
Would you please review the attached file and let me know if I am missing anything important or misinterpreted any steps here?
Once I get the green light from you I would like to post this on our project website and refer people to it.
Thanks for your feedback folks!
Cheers

Subject: Welcome to the PKP-Dataverse Mailing List & Phase II Testing
Hi team,
Just wanted to officially welcome you all to the PKP-Dataverse Integration Project mailing list. Please note that all emails are publicly archived here: https://lists.iq.harvard.edu/pipermail/pkp-dataverse-integration/
Also I wanted to send you a link to the list I'm putting together to keep track of the initial set of journals that will take part in our pilot testing for plugin and API in OJS & Dataverse. Only people on this mailing list will be able to see the file. If you look at the list you'll see that we're just waiting to hear back from one publisher to see what journals they want us to include in the testing. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjeLxEN77UZodFE4YmFCU0hCcDRqUz…
Is there any piece of information you would like me to track on this table that's not there already?
Finally, I just wanted to remind everyone that we will be meeting again on October 21 from 3-4PM EST so I will send out a call for agenda items about a week before then.
Thanks and please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or info you'd like to share with the group.
Cheers
Eleni
